Beautiful Gem of the Sea
Although sometimes you fall and bruise your knee
Yet their is still such a beautiful sparkle in your eye
As clear and undeniable as the blue of your golden
Sun filled sky
My Bahamas part of my heart and soul
How you first crept, then stood then walked so briskly and free
Yet along the way you have fallen and stood again
As you grew
A new sapling of a tree
Many would pillage your shores, but still you shone out
beautiful even more
My Bahamas God's gift that will be restored
Crime, violence, injustice and so much darkness
Like sooth will try to blemish
You my beautiful pearl,
Yet with head held high,
The manner of your bearing is marked by the world
My Bahamas bearer of each boy and girl of the soil
Who can truly know how deep your roots go
Which grow from the belly of the sea,
And bear children of every hew, fruit and love
Unique in the storehouse of her natural beauty
Smiled upon even after the storm, with the rainbow of God's Love
My Bahamas beautiful and free
Upon your age of initiation, like the rings of the the tree
Forty you have achieved, creeping, crawling, walking, falling
yet still growing with a future bright for those who can see
No one knows what your end will be,
But I love you my beautiful Bahamas
With all your blemishes
My Bahamas beautiful gem, Blessed by our Creator
The Only home for Me.
